Artists' Books Take Center Stage at the 2024 NY Art Book Fair | Frontlist

Printed Matter's 2024 NY Art Book Fair, held April 25-28, will highlight contemporary artists' books and their history. The expo will include a diverse selection of artists and collectives, small presses, institutions, galleries, antiquarian booksellers, and distributors.

NYABF, founded in 2006, is a major gathering for artists' book publishers to distribute their work, connect with large audiences, and cultivate new and long-term ties. It allows visitors to discover artists' books in the fair's site, 548 W. 22nd St., New York.

The program highlights include:

The Classroom is a long-running program that allows artists, writers, designers, and publishers to spotlight new publications at NYABF and stimulate debate around significant subjects in artists' book publishing.

Exhibitor Projects: special publication-focused projects presented by select fair exhibitors, such as a geopolitical gardening project by Passenger Pigeon Press and friends, an exhibition of multidisciplinary artists' books by Three Star Books, an exploration of collaborative publishing among five Italian publishers in Image Ecology, an installation of Lilit with talismans, spells, and drawings in the stairwell by Tamar Ettun, and a rooftop publishing experiment with W

Exhibitor Grants and Awards: For NYABF 2024, Printed Matter has announced the Jason Polan Award, a unique opportunity to honor the legacy of Jason Polan (1982-2020), a veteran exhibitor at the NY Art Book Fair.

Friendly Fire focuses on social justice organizations and politically engaged artist publishers at the fair.
